KARACHI:

The Pakistan’s women team has been forced to withdraw from the Southern Skies Netball Tournament that was scheduled for next month in Australia due to lack of funds.

According to the Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF) Secretary Mudassar Arain, the body needed Rs3 million to send the squad for the event, but the Pakistan Sports Board refused to sponsor the team.

“We had to withdraw from the tournament because we don’t have the required funds,” Arain told The Express Tribune. “It’s disappointing because Pakistan is ranked third in Asia.”

Arain further revealed that the federation also had to make a choice between sending the team to Australia and holding a national tournament.

“We have decided to hold the national championship in Peshawar from June 16,” he said. “We had to choose between a national versus international event, and our priority lies with domestic tournaments that can help us unearth talented players.”
