Robberies see surge in Faisalabad

21 people killed in such incidents and injured 170 for offering resistance

Robberies and street crime incidents witnessed a sharp increase during 2018 in Faisalabad District, Express News has learnt.  At least, 13,621 cases of robberies were reported, while the robbers decamped with more than Rs890 million in different incidents.

Statistics issued by the Punjab police department revealed that 4,060 motorcycles were either snatched or stolen, while 546 jewellery stories as well as 264 houses, shops and warehouses were looted in 2018.

Besides, the robbers also looted buses and 21 people were killed and 170 injured for offering resistance during different incidents. In addition, 15 police encounters took place in which 12 bandits were killed, two policemen were martyred and 10 suffered injuries.

The data revealed that 1,155 robberies were reported in January in which two people were killed and eight were injured for offering resistance.

In February, 821 robberies were reported in which four citizens suffered bullet injuries. One police encounter also occurred in Dajkot area in which three officials of the patrolling police were injured.

In March, 1,071 robberies were reported, five people were killed and 17 were injured while resisting robbery attempts. One police encounter took place in the area of Gulberg police station in which one ASI was martyred and a robber was killed, while two cops were injured.

In April, 956 robbery incidents were reported in which four people were killed and nine were injured for putting up resistance during robbery bids.

Similarly, 1,067 robbery cases were reported in the month of May in which two citizens were killed and nine were injured.

In June, 1,164 robbery cases were reported in which two citizens were killed and 14 were injured. One police encounter also occurred in which a former Khurianwala SHO was injured and one criminal was arrested.

In July, 1,173 robberies were reported and 20 people suffered injuries.

In August, 1,481 robberies were reported and one citizen was killed. At least 23 people were injured in different robbery incidents, while three robbers were killed in two separate police encounters.

In September, 1,359 robberies were reported in which one citizen was shot dead. Outlaws injured 31 people for resisting robbery bids.
During October, 1,539 robberies were reported and one citizen was killed. At least 23 people were injured for putting up resistance during robbery bids. During the month, three police encounters occurred in which one police constable embraced martyrdom, while one robber was arrested in an injured condition.

In November, 1,218 robberies were reported in which one citizen was shot dead. At least six people were injured in robbery incidents, while two bandits were killed in police encounter.

In December, 740 cases of robberies took place in which one citizen was killed and six injured. Three police officials also suffered injured in three different police encounters.
