In a first: Female SP given charge of capital’s city zone

ICT administration issues notification for the high-level transfer and postings of nine SPs

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration on Wednesday transferred around nine top police officers in the city, including appointing the first female superintendent in any of its zones.

A notice in this regard was issued by the ICT chief commissioner on Wednesday.

According to the notification, Sameera Azam has been transferred and stationed as the SP for the industrial area of the city. She is the first woman SP of the Islamabad Police to be given the charge of a city zone.

Azam had passed her central superior services (CSS) examination in 2011 and had joined the police service. Over the past seven years, she has served in the interior ministry as a staff officer and has also performed her duties as Headquarters SP. She has also represented the Islamabad Police at several international forums.

Furthermore, the notification states that Industrial Area’s SP Hassam Bin Iqbal has been transferred and appointed as the Security SP. Liaquat Hayat Niazi has been removed as Saddar Zone SP and has instead been transferred to the SSG.

Malik Naeem Iqbal will be replacing Niazi as the Saddar Zone SP.

Similarly, Khalid Khurshid has been removed as the SP for the Supreme Court’s security and has instead been transferred as the traffic SP. He will be replaced by Abdul Hafeez has been deployed as the new SP for the security of the Supreme Court.

On the other hand, Idrees Rathore, who had been promoted as SP on Wednesday, was appointed as the SP for the Anti-Terror Squad.

Bakhtiar Ahmed has been appointed as the new SP of the Anti-Riot Unit and Muhammad Abdul Razzaq has been appointed as the new SP for the Counter-Terrorism Department.

Earlier, a ceremony held in the federal capital to promote five deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) to the rank of superintendent of police (SP) including Muhammad Idress Rathore, Chaudhry Hafeez, Bakhtiar Ahmed, Abdul Razzaq and Malik Naeem Iqbal.

During the ceremony, Islamabad Police Inspector General Aamir Zulfiqar Khan pinned the new rank badges on the officers. He noted that the new badges on their shoulders meant that there was a greater responsibility on them now.

He added that he and the public now expected even better and positive results. He hoped that the promoted officers will perform their duties with dedication, good nature, politeness and with a passion for helping the public.

Aamir added that since they policed the federal capital, the entire country looks up to them as a role model, hence they must work to ensure that the life and property of citizens in the capital is protected.
