RAWALPINDI: At least two police officers were injured when armed men attacked a police check post in the Imperial Market of Rawalpindi. Later, security camera footage showed that one officer managed to tackle one of the assailants even as he was shot at by the suspect.

On Tuesday evening, police officers manning a check post in Imperial Market came under gun attack from multiple sides. As the firing began, people in the market fled the site.

Head Constable Amjad and Volunteer Akhtar were injured by the attack. However, retaliatory fire from the police left one of the attackers injured.

Taking this as his chance, Rawalpindi City police station SHO Sultan Qamar pounced on the injured assailant and wrestled him to the ground.

On seeing this, the accomplice of the assailant turned his gun on Qamar. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed that as Qamar held on to the injured assailant, one bullet flew by his head.

But this did not deter the SHO who kept a firm grip on the suspect.

Meanwhile, another police officer came to Qamar’s rescue and fired at the gun-toting assailant. The assailant though managed to escape.

Police said they believe that the suspects were robbers who had fired at the police check post to escape.
