An Indian girl allegedly killed her mother after she refused her daughter from eloping with her Facebook 'boyfriend', police said on Tuesday.

The arrested Devi Priya, a college student had developed a love affair with her online friend Vivek and wanted to run away with him to his hometown, ANI News reported.

But Vivek, who works at a garment factory, was not able to come to pick her girlfriend and instead had sent two of his friends Satish and Vignesh to her house, the police added.

When Priya's mother Banumathy saw that her daughter was packing her bags and ready to elope, someone, that she wasn't approving of, she tried to stop her.

Furious at being stopped, Priya took a knife and stabbed her mother to death, according to the police.

She and the two men planned to flee the scene of the crime but villagers spotted blood stains on their shirts and caught them, the police said.

A case under relevant sections of the law has been registered.
