Talking to the media, PPP central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira said, “If someone thinks that being at a big post makes him a big man, then we will not be able to see the problems being solved.”
Kaira said, “We know where and to whom the JIT report has been presented. The report was confidential so how did it come out? Chief justice should take notice against the violation of his orders. There is nothing new for us in this report as we have been listening to such stories previously as well.”
He said that a large part of the report had been leaked through the federal ministers and the media. “The allegations pertained to corruption of billions of rupees, but a Rs15,000 breakfast has been found,” said Kaira. “We fight our cases in courts, but we do not fight with the courts.”
He further said, “At this moment, a single man cannot take the country forward. Today we have heard the tale of Alif Laila which is a one-sided story.”
Another senior PPP leader Latif Khosa said that the money trail shown in the JIT report had no link with the Zardari group.
In a press conference, PPP leaders Nayyar Bukhari, Farhatullah Babar, Sherry Rehman and Sassi Palejo said that PPP would prove in the courts that the JIT report had no relation with the facts.
“The JIT report is the result of the partnership between the JIT and the government. A JIT was also formed against Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and now it has also been made against Asif Ali Zardari,” said the PPP leaders. “We have still not received a verified copy of the JIT report. Zardari and Faryal Talpur are innocent until allegations against them are proven.”
They said big decisions would be taken when PPP holds its CEC meeting on December 26.
“In New Pakistan, we find corpses in chains,” they said.
Nayyar Bukhari said the JIT report was prepared by those who politically opposed the PPP. “The government wants to use force to press the opposition,” he added.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s spokesperson Mustafa Nawaz Khokar also said that the JIT report was extremely ridiculous.
Khokar questioned, “Why are cabinet members of PTI, which include Pervez Khattak, spared and all inquiry is being conducted against the opposition members?”
He said, “They want to have a one-party rule. PPP leadership, including its chairman, has signalled that the PM is a selected prime minister.
“Freedom of expression is being tarnished while opposition is being crushed. We find it unfortunate that the accountability court has spared Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz as their cases remain pending.”
