ISLAMABAD: The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, has promising prospects of progress for Pakistan and a shift in media spotlight on the project’s development aspects can get the two nations closer and connected, Xinhua News Agency’s Head of Asia-Pacific Region Sun Yong said on Monday. Based in Hong Kong, the Xinhua chief during his visit to Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) headquarters here said strong media collaboration between China and Pakistan with specific coverage of areas of growth could play an important role in strengthening the people-to-people contacts. Yong, who is in Islamabad on his maiden visit to Pakistan, said the Xinhua’s Islamabad bureau, one amongst the Chinese news agency’s 25 overseas set-ups, was actively covering the areas of interest of national and international importance.  He expressed keen interest in giving a further boost to the already existing news cooperation between China and Pakistan’s premier news agencies Xinhua and APP and continuing the legacy of collaboration since their first News Exchange Agreement signed in 1964.
