Following being slapped with a seven-year jail term by an accountability court, disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif said that he has seen even worse days and would get through this testing time, Express News reported on Monday.

The supremo of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) made the comments while talking to journalists inside the courtroom.

He was arrested from the courtroom after found guilty in the Al-Azizia corruption reference.
The court acquitted the former premier in the Flagship reference but imposed a fine of Rs1.5 billion. His sons, Hassan and Hussain, were also declared absconders.

The verdict was announced by Judge Arshad Malik of Accountability Court No 2. The court had reserved the verdict on Wednesday after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) concluded its final arguments on Tuesday.

The court, after earlier reserving its decision, accepted Nawaz’s application for imprisonment in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail.

Nawaz said that he and his daughter Maryam Nawaz are still grieving over the loss of Kulsoom Nawaz – the former first lady.

He added that Maryam wanted to accompany him to the court, however, he told her to stay with her grandmother Shamim Akhtar.

The PML-N top leader went on to say that he would show patience and forbearance during this difficult time.
