Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz on Sunday broke her silence on Twitter after months-long self-imposed hiatus as she posted images of her recently deceased mother Kulsoom Nawaz and father Nawaz Sharif.
She wished her father good luck, in the backdrop of corruption reference verdict expected on Monday.
The PML-N leader said, "The last time I saw her [Kulsoom] was in the coffin. The last time I saw him [Nawaz] smile was with her."
Nawaz, Maryam avoiding ‘out of court’ troubles
Asked if Maryam Nawaz was back in the political arena or the tweet was a one-of thing in view of the expected decision, party spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said it was her decision to take and that she was not aware of it.
The emotional messages on social media came a day before the accountability court was scheduled to announce the reserved verdict in Flagship, Al Azizia and Hill Metal Establishment corruption references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against the deposed prime minister and his sons, Hussain and Hasan.
The ever so vocal PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz kept her mysterious silence since the suspension of the Aveinfield Properties case in September, whereas her last post on social networking sites was back in July.
The silence of Maryam and her father was perceived in political circles as an outcome of a ‘deal with certain quarters’ whereas the PML-N circles associated the duo’s silence with the death of former premier’s wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz who died on September 11.
Nawaz, Shehbaz deliberate over forthcoming accountability court verdict
Throughout the period, PMLN leaders juggled with the reasons of the duo’s silence ranging from grieves to the sensitivity of time. Nawaz Sharif though has very cautiously been addressing the reporters in the accountability court in as little words as possible, but Maryam was completely absent from the political landscape.
However, these statements attributed to Maryam Nawaz could not be verified from any reliable party sources.
A few sources within the party stated that Maryam has already created a lot of upheaval for her father and for PML-N by her criticism on a certain powerful quarters. They said it was in the best interest of the party and her father that she changes her narrative altogether on focus on more constructive criticism.
Senator MushahiduIlah Khan said that let the December 24 judgment come for the party to decide its future strategy. He said if all goes in favour, then the party would react differently to the recent developments in the political landscape. “However, if the decision comes against us, then it would be a different ball game,” he added.
The PML-N leader said that if the decision comes against Nawaz Sharif, then the advisory board will sit and discuss the future strategy and the role of Maryam Nawaz. She said the Maryam was in a state of grief due to which she was kept her silence for long.
