Victim’s relatives demand action against cops responsible for death

FAISALABAD: A man died due to alleged police torture in Faisalabad, Express News reported on Friday.

According to details, Falak Sher, a resident of Salay Wala Road, was taken into custody by Thikriwala police over suspicion of his involvement in a robbery case. However, during the course of interrogation the police officials allegedly tortured him.

Later, the police released the victim after allegedly taking Rs50,000 bribe from his family. When Falak reached home, his condition deteriorated and he was immediately shifted to a private hospital for treatment. But after struggling for his life for six days, he breathed his last.

After the incident, relatives of the victim and others lodged a protest at Nishatabad Bypass. The protesters blocked the road and demanded of the authorities to take action against those police officials who allegedly tortured Falak to death.  They also demanded registration of case against the policemen involved in the incident.

Suspect dies of alleged torture in custody

Meanwhile, DSP Nishatabad Abid Zafar and SHO Siddiq Cheema reached the spot along with heavy contingent of police and held negotiations with the protesters. The police assured them that action will be taken against those responsible for the death and shifted the body to Allied Hospital for medical examination.

After successful negotiations, the protesters dispersed peacefully.

Earlier, a man was tortured to death by policemen in Faisalabad.

The victim’s brother Ghulam Mustafa, a resident of Nankana Sahib, submitted a complaint at the police station in which he stated that he and his brother, Ghulam Murtaza, and others were travelling in a truck. That is when a police team comprising Ludianwala Police Station SHO Abdul Jabbar, Sub-Inspector Khizar Hayat and Constables Mursil Nawaz, Abdul Waheed and Shabbir intercepted them.

He added that the policemen dragged Ghulam Murtaza out of the vehicle and abducted him. He said the accused police officials allegedly tortured his brother in front of them and took him to Bachiana police post.

Mustafa maintained that they also went after the policemen and reached the check post. He said they saw the cops severely beating Murtaza. He stated the policemen asked them to leave the spot and threatened them of dire consequences when they intervened.

Later, he said the accused policemen shifted the body of his brother to Jaranwala Hospital and escaped without completing legal formalities.
