Pakistan-Russia Ties: Marri, consul general discuss energy

The two countries made commitments in various sectors such as energy, trade and agriculture.

KARACHI: The Consul General of the Russian Federation, Andrey V Demidov, met Sindh Minister for Electric Power Shazia Marri at her office on Saturday to discuss collaboration on energy. They discussed the recent visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to Russia and appreciated the progress in relations between the two countries with commitments made in various sectors such as energy, trade and agriculture. Demidov said that the energy sector is an important area of cooperation, especially in light of Pakistan’s energy crisis. Marri, who is also the adviser on oil and gas, informed the envoy that the government recently signed an ‘understanding of cooperation’ with a Chinese firm for a power-generating project in Sukkur.
