Adviser to Balochistan Chief Minister Haji Mohammad Khan Lehri has stressed the need for research-oriented curriculum in educational institutions of Balochistan.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the adviser said for provision of qualitative education and increase in literacy rate, training of teachers and bringing necessary reforms in curriculum is a must.

Lehri said with the 18th constitutional amendment, the onus of setting curriculum lies with the provinces, but ironically steps have never been taken to bring curriculum in conformity with the modern-day needs.

Moreover, measures are underway to set research-oriented curriculum in Balochistan, he added.

He said in order to achieve the pre-set goals, all stakeholders would have to play their role. Latest surveys of international institutions regarding education in Balochistan are less-than-enviable, he observed.

In order to overcome flaws indicated by global institutions, Lehri said, the government has to arrange a comprehensive educational programme “to ensure improvement in the professionalism of teachers”.

He stressed the need to strengthen the capabilities of teachers in Balochistan. Lehri added the government is determined to resolve the issues of teachers in Balochistan, but it wanted them to give us results in return.
