Basant celebrations

Zealously celebrated across the Punjab in spite of the ban

LAHORE: Basant festivities mark the beginning of spring season in Pakistan. The festival is zealously celebrated across the Punjab province in spite of the ban the past provincial government had placed due to use of coated strings that has caused numerous deaths every year. Further, power breakdowns are another issue caused for the same reason. With harm clearly exceeding the good, it is hard to fathom why the Punjab’s provincial government has lifted the ban on basant, when previously the courts have banned it too.

The provincial government must either reconsider its decision or provide alternatives to control and ensure that no life will be lost to a celebration of the beginning of new season.
