Pensions at home

Letter December 19, 2018
Money of elderly pensioners should be dispatched to their homes

KARACHI: Pakistan, among its many other problems, has a pensions problem for ageing and elderly people as they have to visit the bank to receive their cheques. During my recent visit to a bank, I came across an old pensioner walking with the help of crutches. Some people helped him reach the bank counter for him to receive his monthly pension. The provincial pension plans in Pakistan are grossly underfunded and needs to be reconsidered at higher levels. It is pertinent to mention here that the federal government largely relies on the annual budget to make allocations for both military and civil pensioners.

It is the need of the hour for the patients and the elderly who are unable to go to the bank to collect their pension that money must be dispatched to their homes so that it saves them from the monthly hardship of visiting the bank to receive their pension amounts.
