BESC teachers call off protest outside parliament

After the government gives written assurance to meet their demands

ISLAMABAD: Teachers of Basic Education Community Schools (BESC) have called off their 11-day long protest at D-Chowk, outside the parliament, after the government gave written assurance to meet their demands.

On Thursday, Federal Education Secretary Arshad Mirza, acting on the advice of Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood, met a delegation of the Teachers Association and its head Mazahir Hussain.

Representatives of the administration in Islamabad were also part of the meeting.



The teachers maintained that they will only end their protest after the government gives them written assurance for taking practical measures to meet their demands.

Our jobs must be made permanent and our salaries should be immediately released, they demanded, after which the education secretary agreed to give written assurance for the fulfilment of their demands.

The education ministry further assured the teachers that BECS will not terminate the services of any teacher.
