PM Imran enhances police martyrs package of the capital

Police told to take heads of educational institutions, parents on board for the anti-drug drive

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday approved an increase in the Shuhada (martyrs) Assistance Package for police personnel of the federal capital to bring it at par with other parts of the country and assured the force of the government's full support in make it a model force.

He stated this while chairing a briefing on the performance of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police and on how it could be transformed into a model police force.

During the meeting, PM Imran also approved the provision of Sehat Insaaf Cards to police personnel so that their health needs can be addressed.



Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Amir Zulfiqar Khan briefed the prime minister about the performance of the capital police. He also highlighted the steps taken to improve service delivery and instilling a sense of security among the inhabitants of the federal capital.

The IGP pointed to the various administrative, legal, financial and human resource constraints which the police force was facing in improving its performance and making it a model force of the country.

Amir also gave details on the progress made in the crackdown against drugs, land mafia and the anti-encroachment campaign.

The prime minister appreciated the Islamabad Police’s efforts of for maintenance of law and order and security of the capital and directed to submit a comprehensive plan for meeting the requirements of the capital’s police force.

He assured that the government would provide all possible support to the police to serve the people.



The prime minister also appreciated the fact that the police were using modern technological solutions to improve service delivery and reaching out to the public for their feedback on its performance.

Discussing the ongoing campaign against the drug mafia, especially on the sale of drugs in educational institutions, the prime minister directed that the heads of academic institutes and parents should be taken on-board to make the campaign a success.

Regarding action against land mafia and anti-encroachment drive, the prime minister directed for greater coordination amongst the ICT administration, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the police for continued efforts against land mafia who had encroached government lands in the federal capital.
