The decline of national hockey

Letter December 13, 2018
None of our players could put up a good show in the World Cup

HYDERABAD: Our national hockey team has been an utter disappointment — for far too long now. The team has been sent packing from the 14th World Cup being played in the Indian city of Bhubaneswar. To the contrary, the Indian team has made it to the last eight. So bad was the performance of our players that they could not even win a single match out of the four they played. The Greenshirts lost their matches to Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium while drew the one against Malaysia. None of our players could put up a good show in the World Cup.

The current performance of the national hockey team speaks volumes of the lack of skills and incompetence of our players. The hockey management must not be spared the blame here for ruining the national game, despite getting hefty salaries. The prime minister must take notice of the poor performance of the national team as well as the team management.
