Reacting to the arrest of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brothers Salman Rafique, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Tuesday that 'the country was moving in right direction'.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has nothing to do with today’s arrests and barring Hamza Shehbaz from going abroad, the minister was quoted by Express News as saying in a video statement.

“We did not register cases in which these people [PML-N leaders] are arrested … we didn’t even appoint officials who are arresting them,” he stated.

“Only those who ate carrots are feeling stomachache,” he added.

Meanwhile, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb came down hard at the ruling party and the accountability authorities, saying only Sharif family and PML-N leadership were being targeted in guise of accountability process in the country.

Reacting to today’s development, she said the authorities were completely oblivious of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khanum and his close aides Zulfi Bukhari and Aleem Khan among others.

The PML-N leader said the government had nothing to show for their performance other than political victimisation. “It’s [PTI government] afraid because of stolen mandate and in order to hide incompetence,  resorting to political terrorism,” she remarked.

Aurangzeb said there were two laws at work in the country, one for Sharif family, opposition and the masses and the other one for Imran Khan and his ‘darlings’.

Hamza Shehbaz barred from leaving Pakistan, name on ‘blacklist’

Saad Rafique, the federal railways minister in the previous PML-N government, and his brother Salman – who was also a minister in the Shehbaz Sharif-led government in Punjab – were arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with the Paragon City housing scam case.

The two brothers were taken into custody after the Lahore High Court turned down their plea for an extension in their interim bail.

Hamza Shehbaz, on the other hand, was barred from flying to Doha last night as his name was on the ‘blacklist’ maintained by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The leader of the opposition in Punjab Assembly was prevented from boarding a Qatar Airlines flight from Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.
