Controlling population

The government needs to enact laws limiting one couple to two children

KECH: A recently report says that Pakistan now ranks sixth in the world with more than 200 million people, in terms of population. The United Nations has also projected that by 2050, it will move to the fifth place with around 292 million people.

Keeping this in mind, it was a great initiative by the chief justice of Pakistan, the prime minister and a renowned Islamic scholar to come together and convince people about the need for planned family and population control.

However, at the same time, the government needs to enact laws limiting one couple to two children. There is no denying the fact that both the federal and provincial governments have been facing problems due to high population growth in Pakistan, especially when having to provide the growing population with their basic fundamental rights like education, funds, houses and many more.

Moreover, owing to the increase in population, our resources are diminishing faster than they should. In a recent report, it was also stated that 25 per cent of a country should be covered with trees as this can curb global warming and climate-change effects. However to accommodate the growing populace, we are constantly cutting down trees to make space for our population to live. There are many other issues like this and as citizens, it is also our duty to facilitate the needs of our country and we can do that by reducing the number of children per couple to two.
