Child labour in Pakistan

Letter December 08, 2018
An unfortunate reality of the country

KARACHI: Child labour is an unfortunate reality of Pakistan and prevails in our society in multiple forms. According to a survey conducted by the Federal Bureau of Statistics and the National Child Labour, approximately 19 million children below 14 years of age are working as child labour in Pakistan. Both the Constitution of the country and labour laws prohibit the employment of children, and no child below the age of 14 years can be engaged in any factory or work field.

This core issue is being neglected by the government and as a result few of Pakistani export products have been banned in international markets. This issue needs the government’s utmost attention.
