Recently, television maker EcoStar sent in their latest Vero device for review. Before we dwell into the details, here is a look at the specs.
The 55-inch Ultra High Definition 4K TV has an advanced 64-bit chip with Android 6 (Marshmallow) OS, HDR support, Quadcore GPU, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB storage, 3840 x 2160 pixel display weighing at 18.4 kg.
The device also has 2 USB ports, 2 HDMI ports, headphone jack and air mouse with a microphone.
Visual performance
The 4K display has colours protruding well with the display managing dark content better than the brighter fluorescent subject matters.
Review: Huawei Mate 20 Pro, a leap of faith
For brighter shades, the device fell short of capturing depth to a large degree but managed to produce a decent display using other indicators with Micro dimming having a part to play. Darker shades blended in well with the LED panel and didnt showcase any patches of visual blindspots.
Brighter themes could not expose an open-ended swerve of colour to the extent we had hoped however the Vero did enough to maintain a degree of quality.
Watching Haunting of the Hill House on Netflix was an interesting choice to watch for the dark colours in the show.
HDR
The contrast ratio blends in well with the pictorial quality. Although the HDR version could have been a little advanced, nonetheless, the Vero set does a good job to drive in a good image presentation.
Sound
Arguably its most enhanced feature, the Harman Kardon speakers are a delight to have. The speaker grill gives the set a vintage look and in terms of the sound output - EcoStar has certainly made the right choice.
The soft, median and deep bass distinctions create the right the balance needed to relay sound externally. It is important to mention EcoStar has placed greater emphasis on sound quality which is evident from its choice of speakers. The way the high sound manages to keep the intricate network of audio beams intact is a testament to the speakers. There were no cases of exploding bass with low pitch sounds having an impressive degree of clarity.
Design
The 55-inch device has a large panel with evident bezels. EcoStar has gone for a more traditional look. The misty colour of the steel design along with the speaker grill gives it an attractive texture. The bezels could have been slimmer but the sheer size of the speaker grill makes having large bezels a necessary design decision. That being said, EcoStar could experiment with slimmer edges.
Android OS
Its use of the Android Marshmallow OS makes it a familiar interface to use. Many devices have used different Operating systems recently but for EcoStar to stick to the traditional guns is a better strategy.
Review: Samsung Note 9, a subtle powerhouse
It helps navigate across the smart TV options smoothly. Google Play Store lets you download apps catering to your interests.
Price
Priced at 109,000, in comparison with the likes of Samsung and Sony, the Vero is reasonably priced. However, users might still find the device a little pricey.
Overall, EcoStar had driven in a decent device that boasts the right sound and visual presentation. The 4K market is slowing growing in the country and any attempts made in this phase to make relatively reasonable devices are likely to be well received.
