The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced the launch of an SMS-based booking service for new currency notes, allowing citizens to obtain fresh notes ahead of Eid celebrations. According to Express News, the issuance of new currency notes will take place from May 20 to May 31, while the booking service will commence on May 19.
To reserve new notes, customers must send a text message containing their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number and the identification number of their preferred bank branch to 8877. The identification numbers of designated E-branches can be found on the official websites of private banks and SBP.
The central bank has implemented certain restrictions to ensure fair distribution. Each CNIC number can be used for only one booking per mobile number, and multiple CNIC entries from the same mobile number will not be accepted.
New currency notes will be available at 1,700 branches of various banks across 142 cities nationwide. The distribution quota per individual includes three bundles of Rs10 notes, along with one bundle each of Rs50 and Rs100 notes.
This initiative aims to facilitate the public in obtaining fresh notes for Eid festivities while reducing overcrowding at bank branches. The SBP urges citizens to follow the prescribed booking procedure and collect their notes as per the designated schedule to avoid inconvenience.
