The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday issued notices to the top PML-N leadership in addition to 144 others in the Model Town mayhem case, Express News reported.
Forming a larger, five-judge bench, the top court asked PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif to submit their responses by December 5, the next date of the hearing.
The larger bench will decide whether a new joint investigation team (JIT) should be formed to further the probe. PML-N leaders Rana Sanaullah, Hamza Shehbaz, Khawaja Asif, Pervez Rashid, Abid Sher Ali have all been sent notices by the top court.
Apart from the top judge, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Azmat Saeed, Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel make up the larger bench.
Back in June of 2014, 14 PAT workers were killed and dozens were injured in a police operation on PAT supporters gathered outside the residence of party chief Tahirul Qadri in Lahore’s Model Town.
Previously, the Supreme Court had ordered constitution of a larger bench to decide whether a new joint investigation team (JIT) could be formed to re-investigate the June 2014 Model Town massacre.
