Capital police undergoes massive reshuffle

ISLAMABAD: Keeping up with the raft of changes rung in Punjab, a major reshuffle took place in the Islamabad Police on Friday, a spokesperson for the force said.

The Islamabad Chief Commissioner has issued notifications of the transfers following recommendations from Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan.

Dr Sardar Ghias Gul has been posted as the Operations assistant inspector general (AIG). He will also hold the additional charge of Investigation SP. The incumbent Investigation SP Gulfam Nasir has been directed to report to the Central Police Office (CPO).

SP Nasir was most recently heading the seven-member joint investigation team (JIT) which was probing the disappearance of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Police officer SP Tahir Dawar from the federal capital. SP Nisar was replaced by Operations DIG Faisal Raja as the head of the team a week after SP Dawar’s body had been recovered from Afghanistan.

Aamir Niazi has been posted as the new Headquarters SP and will have the additional charge of Security Operations Additional SP. Liaqat Hayat Niazi has been transferred as Saddar Zone SP, Muhammad Umar Khan as Rural Zone SP and Sayed Aziz as City Zone SP.

DSP Arshad Mehmood has been posted as Sadar SDPO, DSP Iqbal Hussain as Nilore SDPO, Munawar Ali Mahr as Bhara Kahu SDPO, DSP Abid Hussain as Shehzad Town SDPO, Hakim Khan has been posted as DSP of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of the Islamabad Police, Sardar Ghulam Mustafa as DSP of the crime investigation department (CID), DSP Muhammad Ashraf Shah has been asked to return to the CPO, Muhammad Hussain Lassi as the Foreign Mission DSP, Safeer Hussain Bhatti as the traffic DSP, Ghulam Muhammad Baqir as R-15 DSP, Inspector Haq Nawaz Ranjha as Traffic DSP, Inspector Ulfat Arif as Secretariat SDPO, Inspector Imtiaz Ali Shah as Abpara SDPO and Inspector Shamas Azhar as Headquarters DSP.

Moreover, the station house officers (SHOs) of 21 police stations of the capital have also been transferred. Orders in this regard were issued by Operations -Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Waqaruddin Syed.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Ghulam Mustafa has been posted as Bani Gala SHO, SI Yar Muhammad as Bhara Kahu SHO, Inspector Ghulam Mustafa as Industrial Area SHO, SI Saleem Ullah as Khanna SHO, Inspector Mukhtar Ahmad as Nilore SHO, Inspector Asjid Mehmood as Secretariat SHO, SI Tariq Rauf as Sabzi Mandi SHO, SI Muhammad Abbas as Shehzad Town SHO, S Arshad Mehmood as Shalimar SHO, Inspector Gulzar Ahmad as Shamas Colony SHO, Inspector Muhammad Bashir as Sihala SHO, and Inspector Abdul Qadir has been posted as Tarnol SHO.

Further, around 189 officers in the operations divisions who held ranks of constables to sub-inspectors have also been transferred.

IGP Aamir explained that the officers who had been transferred were allegedly using political influence to determine their postings. However, he said that now, all transfers and postings will be made on merit and on the ability of the officer to hold the post.

He went on to claim that the newly posted officers enjoy a good reputation.
