ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday censured Gilgit Baltistan Tourism Minister Fida Hussain for his misbehaviour with officials at Islamabad International Airport.

The incident occurred after a Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flight was first delayed and then cancelled, irking passengers. A viral video shared on social media showed the minister manhandling airport officials and exchanging hot words with staff.

During the hearing, the viral video was played in the courtroom. “Were you in your senses?” asked the top judge. “Are you a minister or a gangster? You do not seem qualified to be a minister," said Chief Justice Saqib Nisar as the SC resumed hearing of the case.

When Justice Nisar asked Inspector General Islamabad Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan for an update in the probe, he was informed that the case fell in IG Punjab Amjad Javed Saleemi’s jurisdiction.

“I am ashamed of my actions and want to apologise to the court,” Fida Khan told the court.

Dismissing the apology, the chief justice ordered Punjab government to lodge an FIR of the incident and directed Khan to submit a written apology.

Justice Nisar then forwarded the matter to Punjab advocate general.
