100-day assessment: CM calls for building institutional capacity

CM Kamal says change is linked to the strengthening of institutions

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has stressed the need for good governance and institutional capacity for resolving public issues. “Once the institutions of the state are strengthened then expectations of change can be attached to the system,” he was quoted as saying in an official handout on Thursday.

It highlighted that the incumbent government under CM Kamal was determined to resolve public issues and it would only be possible when all the departments and institutions work efficiently.

He said the government has been working according to the expectations of the people. “In 100 days of the government steps have been taken to bring improvement in the system,” he said, adding that these steps would bear fruit in near future.

Kamal stressed that all the decisions were being taken on the basis of mutual trust and full understanding with coalition partners. About government’s performance in 100 days, he said the government had taken decisions particularly regarding good governance and institutional capacity building.

Governance, transparency, accountability and confidence building were among the government’s priorities. In four cabinet meetings, Kamal said important decisions were taken and instructions given to respective departments to ensure implementation and proper monitoring of those decisions.

Moreover, the commissioners and deputy commissioners were tasked with supervision of all development projects including hospitals, schools and provision of drinking water. Reforms have also been introduced in Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) where members have been increased to 12 including two female members.

The members would be the retired government officials. Likewise, for the selection of chairman and members a selection board would be formed under the leadership of chief secretary of Balochistan. The secretary would nominate three people for each vacancy and refer their names to the CM. Many other important decisions were taken, including the establishment of Bank of Balochistan.
