‘LDA has collected data of 6,400 commercial buildings’

During the meeting, the need for increasing parking space for high rise buildings was also highlighted

Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Amna Imran Khan informed that the authority has collected data of more than 6,400 multi-storey commercial buildings situated in different housing schemes in order to formulate a new commerlisation policy.

She stated this during a meeting held in connection with preparing a new master plan and commercialisation policy for Lahore at Punjab Urban Unit on Wednesday. Information regarding the area, the number of storeys, the status of implementation or violation of building by-laws, the provision of parking facilities, the nature of use and the general condition of a building has been collected along with photographs of the structures, she said.

During the meeting, it was discussed that the master plan is a comprehensive document which should not only deal with the land use of properties. It should also cater for long term planning for the environment, economic activities, transport, investment opportunities and other issues.

During the meeting, participants were of the view that for preparing a workable, long-term and comprehensive master plan, all the relevant departments should be on board and that there must be close corporation and complete understanding between these departments.

During the meeting, the need for increasing parking space for high rise buildings and for bringing about necessary amendments in building regulations was also highlighted. During the meeting, it was decided to take input from the general public and stakeholders while preparing the master plan.
