Why ban YouTube at universities?

People use tools like YouTube to establish start-up businesses

ISLAMABAD: Social media platforms especially YouTube have revolutionised the process of learning all around the world. These have proved to be great learning tools not only for students but also for people who wish to polish their professional skills.

However, it has been reported that the administrations of different universities in the country have placed restriction on the use of YouTube on campuses. Take, for instance, the case of Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad — a premier academic institution where access to YouTube is kept restricted from 9am to 4pm. When asked, the administration replied, though ironically, that it was blocked at those times so that students can focus on their studies.

People use tools like YouTube to establish start-up businesses, learn do-it-yourself skills and access quality information but students of MPhil and PhD have to wait till 4pm to access online lectures and professional short courses on video-streaming website. The administration must look into this with the aim to revisit their policy.
