SJC dismisses references against IHC chief justice
President Dr Arif Alvi administered the oath to Justice Minallah at a ceremony held at the President House.
Federal ministers, parliamentarians and other IHC judges were present at the ceremony.
On October 24, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar proposed Justice Minallah as the new chief justice of the IHC.
CJP Nisar convened a meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan in his capacity as JCP chairman to consider Minallah's appointment.
The commission considered various aspects and then decided to recommend Justice Minallah’s name to the relevant parliamentary committee for approval.
IHC judge Siddiqui to challenge removal by SJC
The former chief justice of the IHC, Justice Muhammad Anwar Kasi, retired as IHC chief justice on November 27. Justice Kasi, whose proceedings of misconduct ended by the Supreme Judicial Council, will be considered as the longest-serving chief justice of the IHC.
