Former minister Jam Mashooq passes away in US

He was an adviser to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif

HOUSTON: Jam Mashooq, then adviser to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, passed away on Monday night in Houston after protracted illness. His body is expected to be flown to Pakistan on Wednesday (today), accompanied by his wife and cousin, Aisha Farooqi, Pakistan’s Consul General at Houston said.

Jam Mashooq breathed his last at the Cardiology Hospital, Clear Lake, Houston. Farooqi said that necessary arrangements are being made for the departure of his mortal remains. The consulate was coordinating the entire process. He would be given complete protocol by the consulate.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, she said that Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to United States Ali Jehangir Siddiqui, and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi have sent their condolence to his wife and family.

Jam Mashooq was the son of the late chief minister Sindh Jam Sadiq Ali. Pakistan Muslim League leader Mashooq came to the United States in May for treatment and since then he remained in the hospital.
