Security forces on Friday averted a terror attack on the Chinese consulate located in the upscale Clifton neighbourhood of Karachi.
Four people – including two police officials – were martyred before the three terrorists were taken down by security forces. The diplomatic staff inside the consulate remained unhurt.
Jaman, a 60-year-old guard receiving medical treatment at Karachi's Jinnah Hospital, says two of the attackers arrived at the consulate 30 minutes before the attack.
Two suspected facilitators of Chinese consulate attack arrested
They disguised themselves as civilians who said they wanted to go to the visa section, but were told to return as the designated time for the service had not been started.
Jaman added that the attackers came 30 minutes later, armed with modern weapons and opened fire at the consulate soon after. The assailant also lobbed a hand-grenade, resulting in the injuries to the guard.
It is pertinent to mention here that the security guard did not let the attackers go past the barriers after they shot and killed two police personnel.
Meanwhile, Sindh chief minister Murad Ali Shah, while talking to a Chinese envoy, said the attack had been perpetrated from Balochistan.
Earlier today, security forces claimed the arrest of two suspected facilitators of the Chinese consulate attack. Police arrested one of the suspects from Karachi whereas the other individual was arrested from Shahdadpur.
