LAHORE: The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) Lahore has decided to include speed limit and lane violations in e-challaning. It has installed speed radar cameras on all e-challan points across the city for this purpose.

According to the PSCA spokesperson, the authority is vehemently educating the public through its Visual Messaging Screens (VMS) about applicable speed limits on different roads of Lahore.

For traffic on Canal Road, the speed limits for LTV and HTV are maintained at 70km/h and 50km/h, respectively. Similarly, for Mall Road, Jail Road, Ferozpur Road, Main Boulevard, Gulberg the speed limits for both LTV and HTV traffic are maintained at 60km.h and 40km/h, respectively.

The spokesperson said all four violations added in the e-challan spectrum were the main contributors to deaths and injuries on roads. The e-challaning initiative has streamlined traffic management and road safety in Lahore, resulting in fuel efficiency which has been duly acknowledged by citizens, he said.

The Punjab IG has also directed officials to improve the traffic situation in the city, in accordance with the instructions of the Lahore High Court. The authority urged citizens to abide by traffic laws and avoid getting ticketed. He reiterated that those ticketed must pay their fines in time to avoid any action against them.

All Bank of Punjab branches are authorised to receive e-challan payments across the province. The status of e-challans could be checked at echallan.psca.gop.pk. Earlier, the PSCA included one-way violation as another trigger for penalty and tickets, in addition to breaking signals.

"One-way violators are one of the main contributors to deaths and injuries on roads," said PSCA spokesperson. He added that the authority has prepared a system which will have data of violations from the centre to the high-tech wireless sets in possession of traffic wardens for immediate apprehensions.

Meanwhile, CTO had asked interlinking driving licenses with the Crime Records Office. In this regard, he wrote a letter to DIG Investigations. In the letter, he said that CTPL provided biometric devises at license issuing centers. Interlinking of data of criminals and licenses will help in identifying suspects.

He added that at least 18 centers were operational in the city. On the time of issuance of licenses, when the CNIC will be entered and thumb-impressions will be taken, it help identify wanted suspects.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Deputy Inspector General of Police Lahore Operations (DIG) Waqas Nazir had a meeting with Chairperson Pakistan Horticultural Authority (PHA) Engineer Yasir Gilani at his office to discuss the implementation of the Clean and Green Pakistan Programme.

SSP Operations Mustansir Feroz also attended the event. Speaking on the occasion, Nazir said that the programme will be implemented everywhere; from police offices to stations. He said the Lahore Police will contribute to providing a clean environment to new generations by planting greenery at police stations and offices.
