PESHAWAR: A 22-year-old girl on Friday approached Peshawar High Court, seeking permission to allow her to undergo a procedure to change her gender.

Kainat Murad, a resident of Haripur distict in Hazara, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, filed a writ petition at Peshawar High court. According to Murad, being a female in the society was tough, and that she is the sole bread earner for her differently-abled parents.

The youth approached the court through her counsel Saifullah Muhib Kakakhel, asking to legalise the procedure. She stated that some members of the society, dissatisfied with their gender, opt for illegal and unsafe medical operations.

She further stated that doctors had advised her to undergo surgery if she wanted to change her gender.

The applicant further pleaded that as she lives and earns while working alongside males.

The counsel made the director Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH), Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) part of of the petition. He also asked National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) for a change of name.

In March this year, a 28-year-old woman in Islamabad approached the high court to seek legal permission to undergo the procedure. The petitioner also wants court’s permission to have her official records altered once the procedure has been successfully completed.

Dr Asjad Iqbal | 6 years ago | Reply It is incredible that some ‘doctors ‘ advised sex change operation because this woman was having difficulty earning money. Why doesn’t she just cut her hair short and wear men’s clothing? If the issue is sexual discrimination in the job market then it should be addressed as such. An irreversible operation should not be carried out. Must have been an idiotic unethical doctor who advised sex change operation.
Toni Segarra | 6 years ago | Reply Women, in all parts of the world, have the same problem. In Europe, women are killed daily, and they are also forcibly violated, sexually exploited -prostitution, through work because they charge less for what they do, the relevant positions, managers, executives, are in a proportion of only around of 10% -. But it is in Africa, Asia, Latin America, where he suffers most from injustice, abuse, exploitation, from the brutality of men. There are some, who have their explanation, as proof, before the horror of forced, violent violation. Also, everywhere is justified, the mistreatment against women, who are sometimes treated as animals. But when one realizes that the observer is the same as what is observed, it is when the division between human beings, between all that exists, disappears. Because, the absence of division, is the fullness of energy, the joy of the sacred. Peace, inner blessing.
