PESHAWER: A Russian military delegation called on the senior army commander posted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday, said a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The Russian delegation was briefed on the army's campaign against terrorism and fencing along the Pak-Afghan border. The delegation also visited Khyber District.

Corps Commander Peshawar Lieutenant General Shaheen Mazhar Mehmood received the delegation headed by Vice Admiral Osipov lgor Vladimirovich, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Russia, Pakistan to hold joint military drills

Earlier, on arrival at the Corps Headquarters, Vice Admiral Vladimirovich laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs Monument in a tribute to the martyrs of Pakistan Army.

In October, a contingent of the Russian Army arrived in Pakistan to participate in joint training exercise ‘Druzhba-III’.

This was the third joint military drill between Islamabad and Moscow under the bilateral training cooperation agreement.

Relations between Pakistan and Russia have seen unprecedented growth in the last few years after the two sides realised that the current geo-strategic situation required greater bilateral interaction.

Pakistan, Russia agree to extend validity of $2 billion deal

Russia and Pakistan have been holding the “Friendship” drills since 2016. In October 2016, they held their first-ever joint military exercise in Pakistan. In 2017, over 200 servicemen took part in the drills, hosted by Russia at Minralney Vody in the North Caucasus at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level.
