KMC officer narrowly escapes attack on anti-encroachment team in Saddar

A grand operation is underway to remove illegal encroachments around Karachi's Empress Market

Angry shopkeepers attacked the anti-encroachment team on Sunday morning in Saddar, where Karachi Metropolitan Corporation's Senior director Bashir Siddiqui narrowly escaped the attack unhurt.

A grand operation is underway to remove illegal encroachments around Empress Market, Express News reported.

The KMC had notified around 120 shopkeepers to vacate their illegally constructed shops. However, when the anti-encroachment team arrived at the scene in the morning with heavy machinery to demolish the notified shops, they were met with a hostile mob which resisted the operation and went on to attack the officials.

The angry protesters pelted stones at Siddiqui forcing him to runaway from the site.

Despite deployment of a heavy contingent of police at the scene, the protesters pelted stones and attacked the anti-encroachment team.

The situation had to be controlled by Rangers, who also made a few arrests on the spot.

The KMC temporarily halted its operations in the area and called for more police personnel over security concerns.
