Uzbekistan proposes trilateral trade commission
Malik Shahid Saleem said Central Asia was a huge market and Pakistan ought to explore new trade avenues in the region
RAWALPINDI:
Uzbekistan Ambassador Furqat Sidikov has stated that his country desires a trilateral trade commission comprising Pakistan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan in an effort to steer trade, logistics and investment. “Uzbekistan has extended its rail line up to Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan and is willing to further extend it up to the Torkham border in a bid to bolster trade ties with Pakistan,” Sidikov revealed. Addressing the business community during a visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), the envoy pointed out that Uzbekistan was already operating direct flights on the Lahore-Tashkent route twice a week and flights between Islamabad and Tashkent and between Karachi and Tashkent would begin soon. Speaking on the occasion, RCCI President Malik Shahid Saleem said Central Asia was a huge market and Pakistan ought to explore new trade avenues in the region.
