Cyclone warning

Rana Taseer Ikram June 03, 2010

LAHORE: The tropical cyclone Phet is moving towards Karachi but I find that people are not as scared as they should be and the government seems to be giving it a very cursory treatment.

A city like Karachi, where a small spell of rainfall floods the entire city, could be severely affected if the storm hits. What we need is a mass evacuation of people living along the coast, especially those living in village communities.

Many of them live in very basic structures that will be blown away in the event that the storm does hit the coast. This needs to be done immediately.

Regarding the comment above about the mass evacuation of areas near coastal line i believe that there is no secondly arrangement where those evacuated can be settled as according to my review of different website i believe that the intensity on Cyclone phet will Insallah reduce may Allah have mercy on our city.
