ABBOTTABAD: The police must improve on their professional skills and character to command the respect of the public and hence provide safety and security to citizens.

This was stated by the Abbottabad District Police Officer (DPO) Abbas Majeed Marwat while addressing the certificate distribution ceremony at the Police School of Intelligence in Abbottabad on Friday.

He said that the prime duty of a police officer was to provide security to the lives and property of citizens. Marwat further said that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police had rendered un-matchable sacrifices to protect the country and to bring peace and prosperity in the province.

Advising officers of all ranks to keep an open mind, the DPO noted that learning process starts the day when an officer joins the police force and they keep learning until the end of their service since policing evolves as per emerging trends and security requirements.

In this regard, Marwat said that the role of intelligence services shine.

Later DPO attended a Khulli Kutchery — open town hall — at the Cantt police station. The town hall was largely attended by notables of the area, members of the Citizen Public Liaison Committees and members of the Dispute Resolution Committees (DRCs).

Marwat remarked that for effective policing, the role of the community is very important.
