Degrees do little!

Letter November 17, 2018
One has to understand that a degree is a worthless piece of paper unless it is backed by knowledge

RAWALPINDI: Degree is not knowledge, neither are the half-chewed words and broken accents. Unfortunately, most of us have failed to understand this fact. Knowledge is more closely related to basic understanding of different subjects on practical measures. In a world full of impostors it often becomes purposeless to even try being genuine.

Keeping many degrees with no practical approach to what we learn is just like going through a great novel without grasping its theme. Use of fancy words or pedantic literature is also not education. To top it all is the self-delusion that most of us have that we sound smart and well read, but unfortunately that’s not the case.

Although degrees and qualifications do matter but having in-depth knowledge or grasp over certain subject stands far from being qualified. One who has read enough books can be just as much as an expert on something as someone who has attained a degree in it.

Scoring good and working hard are foremost features to gain success and tread a path for oneself. Hence, the idea or the trend to make it to schools abroad might earn someone a better exposure at opportunities that lie ahead, but it does little in defining one’s capabilities.

So one has to understand that a degree is a worthless piece of paper unless it is backed by knowledge acquired by burning the proverbial midnight oil.
