The great forests of temperate and tropic biomes have been greatly reduced through harvesting practices
TURBAT: In developing countries like Pakistan, there is a population explosion. This rapid increase in the population growth increases requirements for food and shelter. And for this purpose deforestation at a massive scale is being done.
But if our forests are cut down at this rate our already devastating climate change will further worsen and it won’t be long before we face drought across the country, putting lives of our people at risk.
The great forests of temperate and tropic biomes have been greatly reduced through harvesting practices. This reduction has decreased the number of trees, giving way to an atmosphere that is gradually turning toxic. Trees help freshen our air and create oxygen but with deforestation we are facing a dangerous environment that is not safe to breathe in.
It is necessary to replace deforestation with reforestation. Trees should be planted, especially conifers species, which often require bare soil to establish. A plantation drive that began during Eid this year should continue until the entire country is covered with enough plants that could save its future.
The Billion Tree Tsunami in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has proven a great success and similar initiatives in other provinces should be taken.
