The Japanese envoy called on Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday and discussed various matters of mutual interest, including promotion of trade, bilateral relations and expansion of cooperation in different sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, Buzdar said a cordial relationship existed between Pakistan and Japan. “The Japanese nation has progressed through hard work and I am a great admirer of this quality.” He said progress in the science and technology sector could be expedited in Punjab by learning from the rapid progress made by Japan.
“We will also take benefit of Japanese expertise as innovative reforms are being introduced in naya Pakistan,” he said, adding that there was a need to take effective measures to expand trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. The bilateral trade volume between Pakistan and Japan will have to be increased as well.
He appreciated Japanese cooperation in improving civic amenities, healthcare and education sectors. “There is a huge potential for investment in different sectors of Punjab including healthcare, education, energy production and provision of clean drinking water.”
Buzdar said a conducive atmosphere was being created for investment and as a result, the interest of foreign investors has increased in Pakistan, especially Punjab, due to favourable policies of the government. Japan can also take full benefit of new opportunities of investment, he added.
“Japan has played an important role in the national development of Pakistan and the government is focused on the welfare of the common people under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.” He said many opportunities for investment are available in different sectors of life in Punjab and the law and order situation is also satisfactory. “The best facilities will be provided to foreign investors in Punjab. It is time to give a new dimension to our friendship with Japan,” he maintained.
The Japanese envoy said there was a need to transform Pak-Japan relations into strong economic ties. He added Japan was willing to further promote its relationship with Pakistan. “Economic relations between Pakistan and Japan will be further increased in the days to come and steps will be taken to promote investment between Punjab and Japanese city Osaka,” Kurai said.
He also congratulated Buzdar on his success in general elections and on taking charge as Punjab chief minister.
Chairman P&D, PBIT CEO, spokesman to CM and high officials were present on the occasion.
Later, MNA Zain Qureshi called on the chief minister at his office. Buzdar said promises made with regards to a southern Punjab province would be fulfilled.
“Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government believes in speaking less and work more. People of southern Punjab have given a mammoth mandate to the PTI in general elections. The government will come up to the expectations of the people,” he remarked. “Now, the practical steps will be taken and real changes will be introduced. I shall soon visit southern Punjab and meetings will be held with elected representatives, office-bearers and workers,” the chief minister concluded.
