During the two-day workshop, participants noted that prevailing mindset can be changed through education and training to promote female empowerment.

ABBOTTABAD: Role of women in every segment of society is vital.  The development of any society is linked with the empowerment of women within that environment.

This was said by speakers in the one day seminar arranged at Abbottabad University of Science and Technology (AUST) by the Abbottabad Women Development Society (AWDS) in collaboration with BBC Urdu service under the logo of “BBC She” where topic of the discussion was “How women are presented in the media.”

Prominent among the speakers were AUST Director Societies Ayub Jadoon, Co-ordinater Student affairs Sahib Zada Yaseen Ahmed, AWDS representative Sidra Zubair and Dr Samena. They discussed the role of media which equally displays women equally in both positive and negative roles and women.

Women are encouraged to promote local culture which depicts local and Islamic values also.
