ISLAMABAD: PIA -- the national flag carrier -- has again made headlines, but for all the wrong reasons as blankets given to the passengers were used as makeshift partitions in one of its international flights.

Photos of the blankets used by passengers soon went viral on social media on Saturday.

According to details, the seating arrangement on the Toronto-Islamabad bound Pakistan International Airlines flight, PK-782, was changed at the last moment with families separated from one another in the process.

The makeshift partitions were therefore erected to respect the privacy.

PIA aircraft skids at Panjgur airport

When the airline's spokesperson Mashood Tajwar was contacted in this regard, he said that using blankets as makeshift partitions on flights is nothing out of the ordinary.

He, however, added that authorities are looking into the incident.

Earlier in the day, a PIA plane skidded off the runway at the Panjgur airport on Saturday. Everybody onboard remained unhurt.

A tyre of the plane, flying from Karachi to Panjgur, burst during landing. The pilot of PIA’s flight PK-517, however, remained in control of the aircraft and successfully brought it to a halt near the runway, according to sources.

Such incidents involving the national flag carrier are not uncommon. In March 2013, tyres of a PIA plane burst while the aircraft made an emergency landing in Quetta. All passengers on board remained unharmed.
