ABBOTTABAD: The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) took out a protest rally on Tuesday to pressurise the government to meet their demands. The rally, which was also attended by several working women carrying placards and banners inscribed with their demands, started from GPO Chowk. The protestors marched on different roads of the city and ended their protest near Abbotabad Press Club. NCHD Abbotabad General Manager Ejaz Sikandar said the decision to wrap up NCHD would adversely affect the goal of increasing literacy in the country. He urged the government to revisit the Council of Common Interest’s decision, which would leave 20,000 employees including 12,000 teachers of NCHD jobless, while 360,000 students will be deprived of education. He also said that the country was going through difficult times and due to deteriorating law and order situation, increasing inflation and unemployment, and the decision to dissolve NCHD would only add to peoples’ miseries.
