141st birth anniversary of Allama Iqbal celebrated

Different educational institutions hold ceremonies in honour of the Poet of the East

QUETTA: The University of Turbat (UoT) on Friday organised ceremonies in connection with the 141^st birth anniversary of Allama Iqbal, poet of the east, at its main campus, Gwadar campus and law department city campus.
“Iqbal’s message of self-reliance for the youth can help students in shaping their character and practical lives,” said Arts and Social Science Dean Prof Dr Abdul Saboor Baloch while addressing a ceremony at the main campus.



The event was attended by Political Science Department Chairman Changez Ahmed, Muzaffar Hussain, faculty members and students.
“The poet of the east Allama Muhammad Iqbal had a firm belief in the rule of law and justice,” said Dr Saboor.
Faculty members and students also shared their views regarding Iqbal’s inspirational poetry and his services rendered for the unity of the Muslim world.
Addressing a programme organised by the law department’s city campus, Incharge Naseem Baloch and students highlighted the unforgettable services rendered by Iqbal for the freedom and prosperity of Muslims of the subcontinent.
At the Gwadar campus, the programme held in connection with Iqbal Day consisted two sessions.
In the first one, the students from education, management sciences, computer sciences and commerce departments described Iqbal’s life through speeches and poetry.
Speaking on the occasion, Education Department Incharge Shahnaz Noor highlighted the life and political services of the great poet and philosopher.
In the second session, a Baitbazi event on Iqbal’s poetry, poems and ghazals was held in which two teams participated. Each team comprised six members.
Team A had students of education and commerce departments while Team B students of computer science and management sciences departments.
The students enjoyed and lauded the programmes.
UoT Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir appreciated the efforts of the faculty members and administrative staff in celebrating Iqbal Day in with national zeal.
Separately, Balochistan Residential College Khuzdar also organised a ceremony to celebrate the birth anniversary of Iqbal in Khuzdar town.
Khuzdar Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdul Quddus Achakzai, Government Degree College Khuzdar Prof Muhammad Hassan Jamot, PRC Khuzdar Principle Haji Muhammad Alam Jatak and students attended the ceremony.
Chief guest Additional Deputy Commissioner Khuzdar highlighted the importance of Allama Iqbal’s poetry and his life during his speech.
He urged the students to investigate the philosophy of the poet and follow in his footsteps.
The additional commissioner said, “Allama Iqbal had given a lot of services for reforming Pakistan. Students should read the poetry of Allama Iqbal and understand them to live a successful life.”
Another ceremony was also organised for celebrating the poet of the east’s birth anniversary at the Army Public School in Sibi town.
The ceremony was attended by Sibi Commissioner Syed Faisal, ex-interim Chief Minister Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Barozai, former interim provincial information minister Malik Khuram Shehzad, Sibi Deputy Commissioner Syed Zahid Shah, Brigadier Owais Majeed, Lt Col Rana Muhammad Asif, district officials and students.
The commissioner highlighted the importance of philosophy of Iqbal and paid rich tributes to him.
Earlier, students presented tableaus on poetry of Iqbal.
The chief guest, Sibi commissioner, distributed awards among the students, who took part in different programmes.
The birth anniversary of Iqbal was also celebrated with zeal and fervour in Ziarat town.
Teachers and students of Government High School Ziarat, Government School Kawas Gharbi, Government High School Chia Ziarat and Government Boys High School Samalan Sanjawi attended the ceremony.
Chief guest District Education Officer Muhammad Aslam Srangzai said, “Iqbal inspired the nation to make a new separate Muslim country in the shape of Pakistan through his poetry.” (With input from APP)
