ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Ahmed Hassan Moughal has welcomed the assurance given by the Chinese leadership about doubling imports from Pakistan during the recent visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan to Beijing. Moughal termed it a positive development because it would play a significant role in reducing Pakistan’s trade imbalance with the Asian giant and improving the country’s dwindling foreign exchange reserves. However, he stressed that the Pakistani leadership should have pressed its Chinese counterpart for enhanced market access for Pakistan on similar lines as China had provided Bangladesh and Asean member countries. “This arrangement will give a significant boost to our exports to China,” he pointed out. “China’s imports from January to July 2018 were over $1.22 trillion which showed that it was a huge market for Pakistan.”
