Pakistan and Indonesia are mutually trying to work out a Free Trade Agreement

LAHORE: According to reports, Pakistan and Indonesia are mutually trying to work out a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), while the two countries already have a bilateral trade agreement. However, with the existing trade framework it is less likely that an FTA will yield any benefit to the country as an FTA between Pakistan and China has heavily benefited China and not Pakistan.

Hence, before the government takes another step it should think about the pros and cons of any such agreement, particularly when Pakistan’s trade balance is in the negative.
