KARACHI: With this letter I intend to highlight the evolving role of mobile phones in the life of today’s youth and its consequential negative impact. It is unfortunate that the use of mobile phone has in fact made us socially isolated individuals, as under the guise of staying connected we have rather lost touch with our near and dear ones. Further, video games, social networking sites have benefited young minds quite less whereas the disadvantages easily outweigh the advantages. Unhealthy obsession with cell phones eats up hours of one’s day, leading to health issues, including obesity and most importantly poor level of concentration during important tasks. It is important that the users are informed to differentiate between safe and unsafe use of cell phones. Moderation is the key to get the most out of the one of the most important inventions of this age.
