Double Shah scam victims get Rs169 million

NAB started investigating the case in 2007 and 6,490 aggrieved persons registered their complaints with the bureau

LAHORE: Director General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore Saleem Shahzad distributed Rs169.68 million among 1,474 affectees of Double Shah scam.

The recovered amount was distributed during a ceremony held at NAB Complex Thokar Niaz Beg. This was the third phase of the distribution of recovered money. NAB Lahore has distributed Rs1.2 billion among 6,490 affectees of the scam so far.

Speaking on the occasion, Shahzad said that Double Shah was notoriously known for looting money from the public in the name of multiplying their original amount. The citizens were being fooled by such people, invested their amount and regretted later, he added.

According to the list provided before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, 70% housing societies were illegal. He further said that NAB Lahore has confiscated the property of over Rs2 to Rs3 billion from Farhan Cheema related to Model Housing. He said that NAB started investigating the case in 2007 and 6,490 aggrieved persons registered their complaints to NAB. The bureau has returned 100% amount to 3,249 victims so far. He added that NAB has returned 80% amount amounting up to Rs700 million to the victims. He added that NAB has recovered Rs1.2 billion in double shah case. He further said that NAB has recovered Rs4 billion in the ongoing year.

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General Operations Lahore Waqas Nazir distributed cash reward among one sub-inspector and two constables who were injured while performing duty during the protest by Tehreek-e-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah.

SP Security Lahore Faisal Shahzad was also present on the occasion. The protesters had tortured brutally policemen in the areas of Mall Road and Kot Lakhpat while performing law and order duty. Constable Farhat Mehmood was given a cash award of Rs50,000 while Rs25,000 each were given to SI Shahid Nadeem and Constable Wajid Ali.

Nazir appreciated the efforts of cops to protect public properties during violence and protests. "Policemen are the pride of Lahore Police and they should be provided best medical facilities," he said. "We are going to establish a unit which will be only given task for negotiation with protesters."
