ISLAMABAD: The federal government has continued its series of senior bureaucratic reshuffles with the latest to be handed a change in assignment is the federal capital’s chief commissioner.

Meanwhile, Waqaruddin Syed has been appointed as the new Operations SSP of the federal capital.

In a notification issued by the Establishment Division on Tuesday, Aamir Ali Ahmed has been appointed as Islamabad’s new chief commissioner.

Ahmed is a Pakistan Administrative Services officer in basic pay scale (BPS) grade 20. Before his appointment to the capital, he was appointed in Punjab.

This is not Ahmed’s first assignment in the federal capital having previously served as the deputy commissioner of Islamabad and as Member Administration in the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

He has a reputation of proactively solving issues of the public and one who does not shy away from taking tough decisions.

His predecessor, Joudat Ayaz has been directed to report to the Punjab government.

Separately, the government has decided to appoint Syed as the new Operations Senior Superintendent of Islamabad Police.

Syed, a Pakistan Police Services officer in BPS-19, had been without an assignment while the federal capital did not have a permanent Operations SSP, SSP Amin Bukhari having temporary charge.

Previously, a rift appeared when State Interior Minister Shehryar Afridi wanted to regularise SSP Bukhari in the slot.

But the Interior Ministry wrote to the Establishment Division asking to appoint Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed, a PSP Officer working in neighbouring Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to the post.

The K-P police though rebuffed the advances noting that Dr Ahmed could not be spared.

Earlier on November 2, the Establishment Division had issued notification posting Aamir Zulfiqar Khan, a BPS-21 officer of PSP, as Islamabad’s new police chief under the Interior Division, replacing his predecessor Jan Muhammad who had relinquished his charge following controversy over not attending PTI federal minister Azam Swati’s call.
